Black stainless steel. Have you heard about it? Have you seen it? I recently wanted to upgrade my fridge freezer. I was just about fed up with a narrow fridge and a narrow freezer in the side by side models that were very popular not so long ago. Our fridge was still working well but I could not even fit a full size pizza box in the freezer. I was fed up with it and decided to replace it with a french door style. The two doors at the top fully open to reveal all of the fridge space and below is a drawer of same width for my frozen food.
But My Kitchen Has Black Appliances
Of course I wanted a shiny stainless steel fridge. However I have a double oven, gas cook top, microwave and dishwasher all of which are black. The dishwasher and microwave were replaced a few years back. I was not ready to replace all of them for stainless steel when they are all working just fine, it’s just not necessary. So what to do, what to do.
A few months back in Home Depot I had seen a Samsung Black Stainless Steel fridge/freezer. Smarty pants is what it was, but alone it stood, the first of it’s kind. All my appliances are GE, I like GE, I’ve never had an appliance go wrong with GE. I guess that makes me brand loyal, plus it adds some level of cohesiveness to the kitchen. (Maybe that’s just in my mind).
I decide to take another look, after all a few months has passed. Bingo, many new appliances in black Stainless Steel. I actually only went to look but Home Depot have quite the selection of appliances and no shortage in black Stainless Steel. My husband and I were approached and the salesman tried to sell me a model by LG which has doors before doors. Sorry Mr. salesman, not for me. We tend to open our fridge to get at the food more than drinks, so these doors before doors did not appeal, plus from an engineering standpoint, more moving parts to break. (Husband being an engineer).
We narrowed it down to 2. A GE model and a Samsung model. Both fit the bill, the differences were minimal. Now it was more down to which worked best for our family. Samsung won. My cohesive matching appliances now have a traitor in the kitchen, oh well.
Black Stainless Steel
Like a kid in a candy store I buy my new fridge. Well why not. There was 10% off and another day discount on top. Saved me about $300 plus free delivery and he’ll take away the old one too.
You can see my new black stainless steel fridge freezer on the left. As a product it smudges less than regular stainless steel. It’s obviously darker and is less reflective. Works very nicely with the rest of my black appliances.
I have only seen black stainless in fridges but I am sure if they sell a lot of those, the remaining appliance types will follow.
