Barrington Hills was first a church community and residents settled along the east side of Fox River. In the 1900’s business executives from Chicago started buying large parcels of land and building summer homes. Some of the acreage was also used for dairy farming. Barrington Hills early homes appear to be estate sized residences, the sizes were suitably large for the time or farmhouses. Barrington Hills slowly expanded until it was incorporated into the village in 1957. Much of the homes built around this time were single story ranch homes. Housing sizes have certainly increased and Barrington Hills became known for the McMansion in the early 2000’s.

Known locally as the location for horse property buyers can expect to find homes with an average of 5 acres although we do have a few areas with smaller lots and some with much more land. There are a few planned unit subdivisions in Barrington Hills such as Pond Gate Farms, Creekside Meadows and Dorvillee, more can be found here. Our zoning is primarily residential with horses allowed, there are some areas zoned as agricultural.

Incorporated in 1957, the Village of Barrington Hills Illinois is located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago and covers approximately 29 square miles. The village is located in the wealthy zip code of 60010. With Chicago’s airport about 30 to 40 minutes away, travel for business or pleasure is easy. You’ll always be able to find direct flights to almost anywhere in the world. Barrington Hills IL is primarily served by Community School District 220. Elementary children may attend either Countryside or Sunny Hill. The middle schools are Station and Prairie Campuses and we have a centrally located High School for seniors.
