Living in This Country Suburban Village
Inverness Illinois is very similar to it’s neighbors of South Barrington, Barrington Hills and Barrington and offers the same country suburban lifestyle. It is primarily a single family homes community with most being on 1 acre lots. There are condos and townhomes in the neighborhoods of The Shires, Inverness on The Pond, Enclaves of Inverness, Ashbury, Weatherstone and the new Maison Du Comte. We have a few condo ownership single family home subdivisions too. Check out Creekside Estates, one of our newest subdivisions.
Single family homes are in a variety of sizes and styles, most of them being in planned unit developments. This allowed for the 1 acre lot sizes and requirement for well and septic systems. With acre lots and green space built into the planned unit developments you’re sure to find a lot of birds as well as deer, coyotes and other wildlife. Landscaping is very green with lots of open grassy spaces and trees. Most of the road names are after their counterparts in Inverness Scotland. Some of the subdivisions as well.
Try Inverness! We offer country suburban living, the best of both worlds, private quiet green sanctuaries with shopping, schools and other daily needs very close by in Barrington, Palatine and South Barrington.
A Golf Course of Course!
Inverness needs to have a golf course! The Golf Club is members only or by invitation. Non club members can play at Makray public golf course less than 3 miles away.
Commuting & Air Transport at O’Hare Airport
Chicago has one of the largest airports in the world. O’Hare airport offers direct flights to just about anywhere you need to go with all major airlines. It’s about a 30 minute drive along I-90 which is just 5 minutes down Barrington Rd.
If you need to commute into the City of Chicago for work I-90 is the easiest driving route. Chicago is about an hour away. Many regular commuters use Metra trains and depending on where in the village you live, you can choose either Barrington Metra station in Barrington village or Palatine Metra station in Palatine village. They are on the same commuter train line.
Harper Community College
In Palatine we have a community college offering vocational courses and 2 year associate degrees. It’s location on Algonquin Rd is just at the southern tip of the village boundaries. Many high school kids chose Harper to start their 4 year degrees and get their general education credits completed. They’ll move on to complete a degree at nearby 4 year colleges.
Schools and Education
The village is served by the following 3 school districts:
- Barrington Community School District 220
- William Fremd High School in District 211
When choosing Inverness homes, if you want a certain school or district, you must always check with the school district offices to be absolutely sure you are in the right location. Never rely on the MLS property listing sheets.

Most workers will likely work in downtown Chicago or any of the closer employment hubs such as Schaumburg, Elgin, Libertyville, Lincolnshire. Most employees commute about 30 minutes from home by road. Inverness is well placed for these hubs. The village of Inverness Illinois may be your relocation destination because of the type of real estate we have here. Often relocating families select Inverness IL alongside Barrington IL and its neighbors.
