Isn’t that a nice question to hear. My son’s friends recently got married and decided why not buy their first home too. Even though I had met them only once, it’s nice to know that they instantly trust and want me as their Realtor. We managed to find them a home before the wedding and close the home before the honeymoon. That’s a pretty busy schedule to stick to, but this couple were decision makers, go getters.
First time buyers who are young and have never been exposed to the real estate industry need hand holding, and a lot of it. That’s fine by me, it’s my job to guide them through the entire process and to be their point of call for anything related to their house purchase and even things that are not. Maybe that’s a Mothers instinct coming out too. Of course my son asked me to take care of them and that’s exactly what I did, exactly what I always do.
Barrington was not a target area for them, prices too high but they knew which locations to look and ended up in the number one target market for them. The market was Algonquin, one of Barrington’s neighbors. It had the right priced homes, the right location for both to get to work. Algonquin is a medium sized town and parts are on the north side of the Fox River. With limited roads across the river it does create traffic snarls if you work on the south side, which my buyers did. Their target market was the south side of the river becasue they both work in Schaumburg. Although we looked in other parts of Algonquin and Elgin as well, they almost missed the house they bought. We had seen a couple they really liked but something was missing.
When we looked at this final house before almost considering waiting until after the wedding, they were literally jumping up and down. It ticked so many boxes. 3 bedrooms, single family, updated kitchen, double garage, fenced yard for the dog, and location was spot on! Offer made and accepted, loan officer did what he said which was a fast approval and we closed on time before the honeymoon.
Young real estate buyers love using technology and so messaging was a great way to stay in touch, answer questions, be responsive. But it’s important to understand that young people really do like instant reaction. It was a long time ago that my son really introduced me to texting, well before most of my peers adopted it in their real estate business. My son and I have had some serious conversations via text. Long ones too. So text messaging is easy for me and for some clients it’s very important to both use it and respond as soon as possible. It’s frustrating to young clients to wait and by that I don’t mean minutes I mean to have to wait hours or even days for a response. I don’t mind making phone calls for any questions but will play texting conversations very well, so long as they are two sided. We did not get that from the other side, so in the end with them I resorted to phone calls which 99% of the time went to voicemail and was never answered promptly. Delays can be caused by lack of attentiveness to our transactions, it also frustrates the side that is on the ball!
No I won’t and don’t text and drive. However if you text me I will text back. If I am with clients, driving, or eating dinner you’ll have to wait for a response but it’s likely never to be longer than 1 hour at the absolute most. (Unless I am asleep).
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Koza, my sons very good friends. He stood up at their wedding and I found them a beautiful new home to start their life together in Algonquin Illinois.
