In July we added a Golden Retriever puppy to our family. Here he is almost 6 months old now, checking out the piles of maple leaves in our yard, too busy to turn round for a beauty pose!
He’s quite a strong willed little chap but has not had the smoothest of rides digestively speaking. The short version is we have changed foods 2 times, each of those take 7-10 days and then we ended up going back to one already tried. (I just got feed up with trying to get him to eat what he did not like). 2 rounds of de-wormer, pro-biotics, anti biotics and I was beginning to wonder if the upset tummy would ever cease. It did, literally magically all by itself when he reached 5 months of age.
I am a member of many Golden Retriever groups so imagine my horror to hear an acquaintance of mine also had a new Golden and was having the same if not worse issues with her puppy. Sadly she had also lost her job and the vet bills were climbing, the insurance was denied (another story) and her puppy had terrible bouts of upset top and bottom. Her vets were at the $2,000 estimate to run more intensive testing and she did not have it. She started a GoFundMe campaign and was doing Ok, but raising $2,000 is hard, even from fellow Golden owners. We all donate as much as we can and eventually the fund raising slows or stops.
I decided she needed a boost and had just had a closing. I usually donate part of my funds to well known local pet shelters. This month I decide to boost her campaign so her puppy can have the tests he needs. I am pleased to see she has raised enough money and we all anxiously await the results.
Part of my curiousity is whether he will just “normalize” like our Finlay did. I hope so, she only had him for 2 days before the problem started and I know from experience how quickly we fall in love with our pets.
