My friends know, my family knows, they get fed up of me reminding them. I hate the heat and therefore summer in Barrington is the season I don’t enjoy, I bear it, just about. If you’re looking for more information on Barrington weather here’s my month by month weather recount. Back to my dog and me.
We got a new puppy in July, bang smack in the middle of summer and the heat. The advantages are I don’t have to worry about loading on layers of clothes each time we go out for a bathroom break. The disadvantages are it’s hot. Even with shorts, flip flops and tees, it’s hot. I hate it and in the summer am either a house hermit or a car with a/c hermit. Not this year, I am committed to taking our new puppy to his 2 acre yard whenever he needs. (Not much choice really!)
As time moves on, our puppy, a Golden Retriever whose name is Finlay is showing a few traits that I am totally into. He does not like the heat either! Who hoo, a dog after my own heart. How do I know this? He shade hops. We go from tree shade to tree shade as fast as possible, then we rest. If in the sun for too long he starts to whimper. He loves watching cars but as you can see, he sits in the shade and watches, this time the chimney shade.
As September arrives and with it cooler temps, Finlay wants to be outside more and more. He’s too young to go for long walks yet, 15 minutes right now is all his joints can take. He’s growing so fast. In the 7 weeks we’ve had him he went from 4.6lbs to 23.4lbs. That’s an insane speed of growth for those bones to handle. So we limit the real walkies. Tomorrow he is 14 weeks old and we are going to the Lake Barrington walking trails for the first time. Not to meet other pooches, he’s got one more round of shots before that is safe. We want to expose him to walking in new and exciting places.
Lake Barrington has the best walking trails around. Miles and miles of them and we’ll surely become frequent flyers, soon! For now I am happy this dog seems to be in tune with me. No likey the heat but as the heat goes away we want to be outside! I think it’s fair to say winter could turn out to be real fun. So far Finlay likes water, I am hoping the same for snow!
Above is Finlay last week, just testing the sofa for comfort while he waits for the fall!
