Unique to the Barrington area, Lake Barrington shores is a large complex of townhouses and condos set among a forested area, the lake at Lake Barrington, and the Lake Barrington Shores 18 hole golf course. Occupying some 514 acres of land there are 1317 units in the complex with 70+ different home models. Building started in the 1970’s and finished in the 1990’s.
Models include 1st and 2nd level condos, coach-houses, ranch townhouses and 2 story townhouses, many with basements, some lookout and walkout. Waterfront units are have a premium view by the lakeside and attract a higher price. You can also find units nestled into the forested area or adjacent to the golf course.
There are 13 home owners associations, each formed after about 100 units had been built. There is a master association to oversea it all. This is a gated subdivision with 24 hour guard. Residents have electronic passes and can use any of the 4 entrance, exit gates. Visitors must report to the main gate off route 59.
This is NOT an active adult community but it is sought after by many Barrington residents looking to downsize their home and find something that’s maintenance free. The HOA takes care of your landscaping and snow removal except for sidewalks. They take care of the exteriors of every unit, owners take care of the interiors.

Condo & Townhome Features
The smallest home is a studio apartment with around 1,000 square feet. The largest will be a 4,000 square foot townhouse on 3 levels with walk out basement. Units have 1 or 2 car garages. Some of the housing stock here is now 40+ years old and if not already done will need to be renovated. New kitchens and bathrooms, new carpets and windows become necessary especially for re-sale.
The homes in Lake Barrington Shores all conform in color and materials to blend into the extensive landscaping and natural scenery of the neighborhood. There are additional ponds providing more waterfront locations. With so many styles to choose from your budget can be low or high, the median falls around $250,000.
Walk along the 3 mile path around the lake, doggies on leashes are allowed, just pick up. The lake provides ability to canoe, row and fish. Some fish can be removed and fried up for dinner, others must be returned but the lake is well stocked. Or take a ride on the pontoon which does tours of the lake for you, family and friends. Birdlife and wildlife is seen from owls to herons, critters to deer.
There’s a beach with swimming area in the lake allowed during summer months. There are several beach areas and grills for outdoor barbecues.
The clubhouse at Lake Barrington Shores was recently renovated. Residents have use of the facilities as part of their ownership and HOA monthly assessment. There’s an indoor and outdoor pool, gym facilities and equipment, spaces to meet local friends for coffee and large areas to host parties or even a family wedding. There are also outdoor tennis courts and a game area.
Golfers are going to love the 18 hole course, more information at the Golf Club. The undulating topography of the course makes it interesting and the views of homes nestled alongside the course in the established landscaping with towering trees provides seperation from residents. There are small ponds around the course providing more visual appeal. It’s not a difficult course to play, at least so I am told by golfers there, but it is a fun course. There is a pro golf shop and restaurant.
You do not have to be a resident of the neighborhood to play but club membership is required. The cost is reasonable compared to other private courses in the area.

The village is also home to the Canlan Sportsplex Center which offers a variety of sports programs for all ages, fitness and summer camps.
Located in the center of the village is Good Shepherd Hospital. Located just 5 miles for the neighborhood it’s conveniently located. It’s presence means there’s no lack of Doctors offices, Dentists and specialist care in the area.
