Located in Lake County, Hawthorn Woods real estate offers mostly single family and estate sized homes on 1+ acre lots. There’s still room for some expansion but it will never become an overcrowded suburban community. There are lots for sale with prices for an acre around $130,000. Hawthorn Woods does have some agricultural land available.
A typical house here will offer sizable square footage for a median price of around $550,000. Look for 4 bedroom homes making up the bulk of properties with 3,500 to 4,000 square feet on 1 acre lots with 2 or 3 car garages. There are many planned unit neighborhoods with parks with about 40 homes as an average. New construction homes are available in several new neighborhoods.
In the mid 2000’s Toll Brothers built the large Hawthorn Woods Country Club with homes for sale. Included is a small area of townhouses. Some of the lot sizes are a little smaller here. Homes range from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet of living space. If golf is your sport, maybe buying a home here right on the course would be a great choice.

People living here have good incomes and pride of ownership is seen all around. Residents enjoy a lifestyle that is relaxed and peaceful.
Nicely located for employment hubs in Lake County and also not to far from the I-94 corridor, workers usually travel an average of 30 minutes to work. It’s about an hour to Chicago by rail or road.
School boundaries are complex in Hawthorn Woods. There are several schools districts in play including Lake Zurich, Freemont, with Mundelein and Stevenson High Schools. We understand schools can be a critical choice factor for parents and so check boundaries with district offices.
If you like golf you can join the HWCC or chose from other nearby clubs including Ivanhoe or Kemper Lakes. Other sports facilities include baseball, fencing, soccer. There’s also Zumba fitness and the local Aquatic Center. For shopping and restaurants residents are most likely to visit Lake Zurich or Vernon Hills both of which offer everything from small mom and pop stores to the major retail outlets and restaurant chains.

This community is more affordable than it’s sister villages of Kildeer and Long Grove. With many homes built over 40 years ago, the square footage is smaller. More recently houses are larger in size. The luxury market is limited with houses around the $1 million mark with the neighborhood of White Birch Lakes having the priciest houses. Hawthorn Woods has over 28 subdivisions, with a few more being built in 2018. The median sold price for this community has been about $400,000 for several years.
