Palatine is the seventh largest community of Cook County Illinois. Founded in 1866 it was built around the railway line. Palatine is now a major commuter city from the burbs to the City. In 1999 the village started a center regeneration program which spawned a new station and parking garage which led to several new condo buildings, row homes and commercial buildings.
Palatine is home to a Chase Bank payment processing center, Weber Grills and Square D as just of the local employers. Palatine is an hours commute to Chicago and 25 minutes to O’Hare airport. There’s plenty of shopping in Palatine along Routes 12, Palatine Rd. and Dundee Rd. Palatine has two high schools and several elementary and middle schools.

Palatine has a diverse mix of residential real estate. Fist time buyers can enter the real estate market with affordable condos, townhomes and entry level single family homes. If a large estate sized home is what you want Palatine offers many choices without the acreage found in neighboring Barrington.
Palatine has new construction, limited to the regeneration found in the center of Palatine where older homes have been torn down and new homes built. There have been several new condo buildings and town homes built close to the Metro station.
There are no active adult communities in Palatine. Ranch homes are a popular alternative in Palatine. Other home styles include Colonial, traditional, contemporary, craftsman and cape cod. Many single family home neighborhoods offer split level homes, raised ranches and other styles. Palatine has a few more country suburban type homes on half to 1 acre.
If a more upmarket community is what you need, Inverness is the neighbor and shares a zip code, Post Office and some of the schools. Inverness is a much higher entry point for homes and many properties are in 1 acre or more, with well and septic systems. Most of Palatine is public water and sewer.

Palatine has two zip codes one of which is shared with half of Inverness. Most of Palatine is located on the west side of route 53 and south of Lake Cook Rd, north of Algonquin Rd. With close to 70,000 residents. It’s a bedroom community with an average commute time of about 30 minutes. Palatine is conveniently located close to the employment hubs of Schaumburg, Elgin, Northbrook, Elk Grove Village and Des Plaines.
There is a large Forest Preserve here, two golf courses, and miles of off road bike trails and walking pathways if you like sports and outdoor activities. The village has year round events for all ages.
Palatine has a large park district and lots to do outside. With the Twin Lakes golf course and recreation center you can take the family boating or go golfing and have lessons. For indoor sports try Hockey at the Salt Creek sports center. Get fit with any of the numerous programs offered in Palatine.
If you like shopping you’ll find everything from big box stores to independent mom and pop stores. It’s not far to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg or The Arboretum in South Barrington. Palatine movie lovers can find theaters in nearby Deer Park, Arlington Heights and South Barrington.
There’s no lack of places to dine in the community. Look for breakfast, cheap eats, fast food and moderately priced dining throughout the village. Try Artistic Cuisine, Brandts of Palatine, Red Apple Pancake House or the Agio Italian Bistro for a family lunch or dinner.
