Throughout the Barrington villages there are vacant lots available to buy and build your dream home. You can find standard builder lot sizes, i.e. 1/4 acre, all the way up to 5, 10, 40 acres or more. However it’s not cheap here to buy land and the premium spots command premium prices.

Waterfront lots are also a premium price, vacant lots close to busy through roads may be more budget friendly but you have to be willing to deal with first that noise and second a re-sale in the future, it will be tough for many buyers to swallow.
If you cannot locate a great lot for your home building project another option is to look for properties that are not live-able and need to be torn down. This might offer a lot that has more established landscaping much of which could be preserved.

Any contract to buy land should be contingent upon your establishing that the soil will support your new improvements. You’ll need to carry out your due diligence by way of soil tests before you commit to closing. You’ll need to approach the village to see if your project is likely to be approved. There will be some restrictions that will prevent you from even considering a lot. i.e. do not buy a 1 acre lot and expect to be able to build an equestrian indoor arena. All the villages have different regulations and guidelines.
Financing for lots is available but is usually a short term loan. Some lenders have offered a one time close to buy your lot and build your home, other provide a loan to buy the lot, another to finance your build and then at completion will combine the loans. I recommend you talk with a loan officer before you embark on a project.
